i need intersectional feminism because white women can still stand next to a person of color like they own them and think it’s okay.

for reference

“Still something feels off with the ad. Maybe it would of been better if they had taken both subjects in to the studio and shot them behind a plain backdrop like American Apparel does with most ads and included a caption about agricultural workers and how they’re paid so little that chances are they can’t even afford a plain $18 American Apparel t-shirt.”

It just looks so uncomfortable for both of them.

no they did not use him as a prop for a white bitch to hold onto. they. did. not.

i want ANY white feminist to come tell me white women know anything of men of colors oppression UNDER them. i wanna hear all about that shit.

fucking assholes.

Here’s a very real image of colonialism and white supremacy at work.

I really hope dude got paid. I can almost bet they didn’t pay him shit.

on the racist, appropriative history of burlesque and exotic dancers

not only did they take much of the dancing style, music and garb from afrocubanas, they also took on our names and personas to make a buck, while selling a hypersexualized, caricaturized image of the women of color whos identitys they were commodifying—they were known for sets that included faux-voodoo, african drums, etc.

or, on how white women have been stepping on us for their own fame and glory since forever…..

rosita royce - born marjoree rose lee. *her white girl name wasnt spicy enough. she had to fake the latina funk to get on.

lilly christine -who was known for some “native american” influenced routines where she dressed up as a sexy mock indian and stripped, as well as her “voodoo” routines. (her ethnicity is up in the air BUT she lived as “white” so)

zorita -real name kathryn boyd. *see rosita above.

carmen miranda- was a portuguese white girl. NOT brazilian but cemented a fake spicy latina, fruit basket on the head, hypersexualized trope by claiming she was authentic.

tongolele- american born of white parents, one spaniard (but steeel white) and a tahitian grandmother. she gets a half a pass for the name, however her dancing was mostly afrocuban and she was touted as “mexican”.

there are a good few who come to mind from that era who are african american and also pretty much bit the fuck out of afrocuban dancers but that is a whole diff dynamic from WHITE women who pretended to be exotic lightskinned WOC to degrade us and get rich.

my favorite Eliza photo

This is so gross. I really wanted to watch this set last year but soon as I seen what she was wearing I fucking bounced. If you’re going to coachella this year don’t pull this shit. Leave that fake shit at home.

I seen some talk of this movie Casa De Mi Padre floating on my dash so i thought to share this.

A couple of months ago I was going through random videos of Gael Garcia Bernal on YouTube as I tend to do from time to time and came across this one.

My feelings about him saying Gael and Diego Luna added “legitimacy” to the film (Casa De Mi Padre). Like, they needed some token brown ~legit~ mexicans to derail from all the bullshit this movie is full of. I’m really disappointed that Gael and Diego decided to do this movie to be honest. They’re easily two of the most popular and RESPECTED Mexican actors of my generation and they’re doing shit like this!?!

I hate hate hate when white people are like I can speak Spanish and say the most ridiculous things and act like its Spanish is a joke. Like brown folks in the USA aren’t told everyday not to speak it.

Then I looked into the movie and it’s plot revolved around drug lords. Like HAHA drug cartels are hilarious right!?!? /sarcasm

and as @liquornspice pointed out jokingly

it takes white privilege like a mug for a someone to take on a hispanic last name just for shits and giggles coz they think it sounds cool, when we’re out here getting deported to countries we’re not even from for something as simple as that.

yeah, im talmbout you, lana del rey. :|

Her real name is Elizabeth Woodrige Grant.

Last time I ranted about her on tumblr and twitter I got anons calling me ignorant and fat cow. On twitter white gay men were quick to tell me I was wrong. Lana is in the music industry simply because of nepotism. Her father is some rich record exec, she consciously changed her name to seem more of something that isn’t white. Hood or chola or some shit is what she was going for apparently.

For her to take on that name wasn’t just for shits and giggles, but she did it to GET AHEAD in an industry that would think she was something special off that name. White privilege is when you can adopt a name for poc and it won’t affect you negatively. Margerita Castillo changed her name and appearance to Rita Hayworth

Jo Tejada changes her name to Raquel Welsh so she could get jobs. More recently there’s some actors and actresses who changed their name.

Shit, even Selena went by one name probably so white peole wouldn’t have to struggle with Quintanilla. I can see why she did it though. I wouldn’t buy a record from some chick med Elizabeth Woodrige either.

Thank you, Grace Helbig for giving me a tutorial on Chola makeup. This Gangster Bros and Big Booty Hoes party needs a woman to break a stereotype.

People are still doing this shit?!? *RINGS THE ALARM*

What stereotype you think you’re breaking exactly? This is fucking ridiculous. The tags you used. I fixed them for you in my tags. I can’t even… I’ll pray for you.

Lana Del Rey

Can we not with her? Here’s why:
1) Rich white girl buys record contract through connections.
2) Changed her name to be more “gangster” so she could make it. So of course it’s a name that could belong to a brown girl right?
3) Thinks what she’s doing is “rapping”. Thinks there’s nothing wrong with doing it.

Like, I don’t need to break it down anymore.
